CASE STUDY 1 Punch Biopsy

BCC of the Back of the ear
A small hole is punched through the suspicious skin lesion.
A small sample of the suspicious skin lesion is taken using Punch Biopsy.

A sample of "punched" suspicious skin lesion is send to laboratory for histological diagnosis.

In this instance, the diagnosis was Basal Cell Carcinoma.

CASE STUDY 2 - SHAVE BIOPSY

Squamous Cell carcinoma of the left face
A raised skin lesions such can easily taken off for examination by "shaving".
A Sample of shaved suspicious skin lesion is send to laboratory for histological diagnosis.

In this instance, the diagnosis was Squamous cell carcinoma.
A small sample of the suspicious skin lesion is taken using Punch Biopsy.

CASE STUDY 3 - EXCISIONAL BIOPSY

Malignant Melanoma of the back

Suspicious lesion was surgically removed as a WHOLE for microscopic examination. This is called excision biopsy,

The resulting surgical defect is sutured.

In this instance, the diagnosis was Malignant Melanoma and a further 10mm of skin was removed from both sides of the surgical scar to ensure that all its roots were removed.
